It took a few days but another move has been made in the CEBL. Tyrrel Tate finds his way back to the Ottawa BlackJacks for his fifth stint with the club. Ottawa add Tate to their early off-season roster building, along with Justin Jackson.

Tate will enter 2026 in his seventh CEBL season, having played for Vancouver (then Fraser Valley), Calgary (then Guelph), and most with the BlackJacks. He holds the Ottawa team record for most games played at 73, three pointers made, and second in total points. He has been a very important veteran for the last few seasons in the nations capital. Tate has mainly come off the bench, but can be a spot starter if needed, especially early on in the summer. He is not currently playing in a winter league, so that should mean he is immediately available when the 2026 campaign begins. That may be very crucial as most rosters are not at full strength for many teams, which should allow a veteran like Tate to take advantage.

Tate is a career ten points per game player, who has shot 40% from three on his CEBL career. Last season was a slight step back from his 2024 campaign which were career highs. In 2025 Tate averaged nine points, two rebounds, and two assists per game, shooting 38% from three. While being a very solid shooting in the league, Tate is also a good defender. Both he and Jackson should be very important bench pieces for the BlackJacks this summer.

The Ottawa BlackJacks open their season on May 12th at home against the Calgary Surge.
