Things are picking up now in CEBL Free Agency, as we had another five players decide who they’d like to play for this summer. Rosters are beginning to take shape and some have chosen other organizations to be apart of. Here are the signings for the week of the fourteenth.

Shakur Daniel

Ottawa continues to have players from last year’s roster return for 2026 and Daniel is included in that list. The six foot six Canadian guard is a defensive menace, who’s struggled to find offensive consistency at the professional level. He drew most of the top assignments in the league last year for the BlackJacks and I would assume will do the same. He did start a chunk of games last year, curious to see if that role is elevated.

Taye Donald

One of my favourite young players in the CEBL has rejoined the Edmonton Stingers for this upcoming summer and his second consecutive. He was mainly used as a defensive specialist off the bench for coach Jordan Baker, but I suspect he finds more time this year. This is mainly due to the flashes we saw from Donald late in the year and also a productive first winter pro. Even if the shooting is average like it was last season, he will certainly be a big contributor.

Fareed Shittu

Another young Canadian signs with a CEBL squad, as Shittu joins the Sea Bears for 2026. He hasn’t seen much action in the league so far in two summers and has not played since last year. Winnipeg hopes bringing in Shittu, he can give them some defensive and athletic upside. His time at UNBC and UBC were productive, consistently shooting 52% from the field. Curious to see how much time he gets, if any. Would be a great opportunity for him to get on the professional map.

Nathan Cayo

Cayo returns to the River Lions for his third consecutive season and fifth in the league overall. He has been consistently one of the best two-way players in the league, posting career CEBL numbers of 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Last season was a slight step back for Cayo, who’s rebounded slightly this winter in France’s second tier. Good bit of business by Niagara in my opinion.

Jameer Nelson Jr.

This is by far the biggest surprise of the Free Agency window so far, seeing Nelson Jr. jump ship from Calgary to Brampton. He was one of the best guards in the league, averaging 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 47% from the floor. He was named Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-CEBL Second Team. Big time player who is looking to make a statement after an interesting winter season, which saw him play a short stint in the G-League and minimally in China. Really intrigued by what the Honey Badgers are building so far.
